Mother
The “Mother” series of images were born of Deedee’s own experience with the transformational, dualistic nature of motherhood. It crushes and decimates. It powers and makes whole. It is not isolated to the artist’s experience.
Her external subject speaks to shared experiences of motherhood.
Each image is a digital photograph taken in one afternoon to represent the multitude of emotions a mother can feel in a short passage of time. The vulnerability of motherhood and womanhood photographed through plastic bags, wine glasses, leaves and fabric to create an effect of haziness and blurred outcomes, all meant to represent the blurriness of roles within the life of a woman who is also a mother.
