“We Were Together, I Forget the Rest.” Walt Whitman

“winter in the country”

Last year, I had the honour and privilege of witnessing a day in the life of the beautiful Froese family. They have always inspired me with their life style. Gardening, gluten free baking, the way they seemed to respect one another and live a life that has wholeness at the front and center of their decisions.

I offered this Heirloom session as a gift to them before I knew that Marissa had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She decided she didn’t want to wait until summer when the land is blooming and life on a farm is full of the idyllic romanticism we non-farmers dream it to be. Instead, Marissa choose a quieter season in their lives, when the time they spend together is longer, slower and rich with fireside reading, fog filled sunrise mornings and rosy cheeks from the crisp air outside.

She wanted her life in the images with her children and husband before the fatigue of fully fighting this disease crept into their lives. Their dedication (even within the frustrations, annoyances and reminders to do the chores) to the family unit in the truest sense of the phrase rang throughout. Their place is a slice of heaven with all the chaos of life thrown in.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the honour of witnessing your day and your love for each other.
